18 Years between games?
While digging through some stats, I wondered what the longest period of time a player had gone between being called up to the NHL? A quick search revealed that some players who had gone five or six years before returning to the NHL, but I was surprised to learn that the record was eighteen season!

This honor belongs to goalie Moe Roberts, the first Jewish goalie in Boston Bruins history. He played 2 games for Boston in 1925-26. Moe also had short stints for the NY Americans in 1931-32 and 33-34. It would be 18 long seasons before he played in the NHL again.

On November 25,1951, two weeks short of his 46th birthday, he strapped on his pads in the NHL once more.
Moe Roberts
In a game against Detroit, Chicago's Harry Lumley went down with an injury. Moe, who was Chicago Blackhawk's assistant trainer, donned the pads for the last 20 minutes of the game.

He shut out Detroit in the 3rd but Chicago still lost 5-2. One of his most memorable moments in the game was a point blank save on Gordie Howe.

The Moe Roberts story is one of many great anecdotes in NHL history.
